Frequently Asked Questions

In order to distribute the signal from your SKY™ box to other rooms in the house the RF2 output on the receiver needs to be activated. This is done using the following proceedure to access the hidden menu:

  • Press the SERVICES button

  • Press the NUMBER 4 button, then the NUMBER 0 then the NUMBER 1 button

  • Press SELECT button

  • Press the NUMBER 4 again

  • Press the DOWN ARROW button once

  • Press the SIDE ARROW button once

  • Press the DOWN ARROW button once again [save new settings]

  • Press SELECT

  • Press the BACK button until you're back out of the menus

Please note that step 2 (Pressing buttons 4, 0 and 1) are not reflected on the Sky menus. ie. you’re choosing options that are not visible on the menu so don't worry if it doesn't appear to be doing anything.

The RF2 will now be activated for the use of distributing the services.

What is the RS232 connection for?

The RS232 is used for direct connection to your PC for control purposes. Simply install the software supplied on the CD and the user controls will be available from your PC instead of the remote control.

What is the maximum distance for the outputs on the HDMI0404UTP?

Maximum length is 30m

Is the HDMI0404UTP compatible with the daisy chain repeater?

No, The daisy chain repeater is only compatible with HD base-T products.

I don't quite understand the process of the Super control IR system; IR transport can be forward or backward, what does this mean?

IR forward and backward means IR signal could transfer in 2 ways. It could be used to control the source device at the TV end. It could also control the TV at the end of the matrix.

HDCP 1.2 Compliant

High bandwidth digital content protection, basically it's to prevent copying of digital audio/video content as it travels across connections.

MIMO

Multiple input, multiple output, MIMO technology has attracted attention in wireless communication because it offers significant increases in data throughput and link range without additional bandwidth or increased transmit power.

OFDM

Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) is a method of encoding data on multiple carrier frequencies. OFDM has developed into a popular scheme for wideband digital communication, whether wireless or over copper wires, used in applications such as digital televeision and audio broadcasting, DSL broadband internet access, wireless networks and 4G mobile communications.

The software on the SKY™ High Definition box is slightly different to the standard receiver. The procedure to activate the RF2 output is as follows:

  • Press the Services button
  • Press the sequence; 0,0,1 then select
  • Press 4
  • Select RF output and toggle to 'on'
  • SAVE SETTINGS

There are 2 main types of distribution amplifier and it is important to make sure you are using the corretct amp for the job.

  • RemoteLINK™ DC by-pass (mains or line powered) amplifiers are designed for distributing SKY™ signals around the home allowing the ability to change the channel from other rooms in the house. They allow low voltage DC pulses to pass around the system which enables the control from other rooms. They are to be used in conjunction with ME200 'magic eye' sensors. Range available, 2 - 16 outputs.
  • Distribution amplifiers - internal are designed for distributing Digital terrestrial signals direct from your digital aerial. They feature a 12v DC line powering on the input enabling the use of a pre-amp (masthead) without the need for a seperate power supply unit.
  • Input level control distribution amps have the same features as the standard internal distribution amps but have an input level adjustment offering more flexibility. All standard internal amps range from 2 - 8 outputs.

This is a common problem and there could be several reasons why the Magic Eye is not working so it is best to check all the following before exploring the possibility of faulty equipment:

  • Is the RF2 output on the SKY™ box active? (there will be no picture on other TV's in the house without this feature activated)
  • Is the LED indicator lit on the eye 'block'? (this indicates the DC voltage is present from the SKY™ box allowing control)
  • Am I using the correct 'SKY™ by-pass amplifier? (if an amplifier is being used)
  • Are all my cables correctly connected?
  • Are all the connectors fitted correctly? (ensuring none of the braid screening is touching the centre core)
  • Am I using outlet plates which are 'isolated'? (isolated plates have an internal DC block wich will stop the DC voltage reaching the eye from the SKY™ box, however the picture will still be present)
